FHFM Cancer Institute
Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Cancer Institute provides expert compassionate care with a small-town feel in Volusia County. The Cancer Institute is committed to providing exceptional care throughout our community and Central Florida.

As an affiliate of the FLORIDA HOSPITAL Cancer Institute in Orlando, our patients receive the latest cancer detection, prevention and treatment technology close to home. Patients will work with community physicians through the diagnosis and treatment processes with the guidance of a patient care liaison to assist patients with support and education services.

The team of expert physicians and health care professionals at the Florida Hospital Fish Memorial Cancer Institute work closely together in the fight against cancer by providing comprehensive care. The overall goal is to improve patient outcomes by reducing the number of both new cancer cases and deaths caused by cancer. This can be done utilizing several effective strategies:

New Cancer Care Navigator
Florida Hospital Fish Memorial announced today that Margaret E. Gaffney has been selected to serve as the Cancer Care Navigator.

In this role, Gaffney will serve as the single point of contact for cancer patients and their families, and will assist in all aspects of the cancer patient’s care experience. Gaffney will meet individually with patients and caregivers and offers education, referrals and support services. As a patient’s personal guide, she steers patients through the psychological, emotional and financial challenges associated with cancer.

Gaffney has been with Florida Hospital for 20 years. Most recently, Gaffney served as an Endoscopy Nurse for Florida Hospital Fish Memorial where she worked in the both pre-op and intra-op areas.

“Many family members have been diagnosed with cancer, as have I,” Gaffney said. “These experiences, along with my experiences throughout my nursing career, have provided me with a deep understanding of the complex dynamics surrounding the disease. The privilege of helping patients and their families navigate the cancer treatment process is a wonderful new chapter in my own story. I personally know that having the right support systems, including a strong medical team, will make the journey considerably smoother.”

Gaffney graduated from the nursing program at Daytona Beach Community College in 1996. Soon after, she accepted a position at Florida Hospital Celebration Health as Community Nurse Liaison and Coordinator of the Celebration Joint Replacement Center. She continued her training at Florida Hospital Orlando and worked nights as a Medical/Telemetry nurse. Prior to her nursing career, her studies and certifications surrounded the fields of Education, Health and Fitness. Additionally, Gaffney has served as a CPR instructor for the American Heart Association since 1996.
